Harris Hill Amusement Park has been in business since 1947, and is one of the oldest family amusement parks in the region. There are picnic tables throughout the park, and there are concession stands and restaurants available to keep your family fueled.
In June 2020, Harris Hill will partially reopen its activities. After closing for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the park's batting cages, mini-golf, and driving range will all be open. The park will also reopen its arcade, mini-golf, and race track. There are also restrooms, a volleyball court and a basketball court.
For something a little different, you can check out the Arnot Art Museum in downtown Elmira. The museum promotes the appreciation of the visual arts by displaying a collection of art by the late Mathias H. Arnot, a painter and sculptor. The museum's atrium is unique, with velvet chairs and a warm atmosphere. This is an ideal starting point for your trip to the Southern Finger Lakes region.
While in the area, don't forget to stop at the local brewery for a beer or two. Upstate Brewing Company is one of the many Elmira, New York-based root beer makers. They also have a tasting room and sell beer flights for $1. A visit to the brewery is a fun activity to add to your Elmira itinerary. The Chemung River is nearby for those who want to spend a quiet afternoon relaxing by the river.
Another fun option in the area is Eldridge Park, which is the oldest park in the area. Locals appreciate the park's efforts to keep going. There are lots of activities to enjoy with the whole family, and the 1890 carousel is still in operation. If you're not into a ride, you can try miniature golf and paddle boats. Whether you're a kid or a grown-up, you'll have a blast!
From Route 17/I86, take exit 56 to take NY-353 towards Elmira. Take this road until it becomes Brant Road, then turn right onto Newtown Reservation Road. The state park is 3.2 miles away. You'll find parking on Brant Road. A CVAS member can take you through the park for free during September. While it's a fun day, you may also want to check out the National Soaring Museum.
In addition to the rides, Harris Hill Amusement Park Elmira NY has several fun museums and exhibits. The National Toy Hall of Fame and the National Comedy Center are a few must-visit attractions. There's also a climbing maze, a space shuttle, and an antique ham radio shack. And don't forget to check out the IMAX Omnitheater, which has a 66-foot/20-meter-diameter screen. The museum also has a cafe, which means you can grab a quick bite and a snack after a long day of sightseeing.
